Charity Challenge
June 2016

This end-of-year charity challenge is in aid of the Brittle Bone Society.

The challenge is inspired by the maxim of Seishin Tanren, which states "In Budo, it takes 1,000 days to learn a technique, 10,000 days to polish it, but the difference between victory and defeat is measured in fractions of a second".

At the end of this year I invite serious karateka to strike the makiwara 10,000 times, consecutively.

All donations to the aforementioned charity will be much appreciated.

Richard Barrett - Redemption

I would like to take a moment to commend the book "Redemption" by Mike Clarke.

The book is twice the size of its original because Mike has gone into a lot more detail of the events that took place in his early years. Furthermore, he's also added a few of his insights and thoughts of those events and compared Karate training as it was then to the training of today.

What I like most of all is the fact that Mike tells this factual story of the highs and lows of his early years with honesty and bluntness. For me this shows this man has true integrity and after 40 years or training in Karate-do the value of his words should not be taken lightly.

The book tells of the change of attitude and character of this man through his involvement in Karate and because of this I recommend all karateka purchase a copy and have a good read. I, for one, have found myself returning to it often, as it is a book that keeps you going back to it until finished because you want to know what happens next.

I know that everyone that reads this latest publication from Mike Clarke will be entertained by its story and will hopefully find reflection and thought-providing insight within it.

On all six postures try not to lean forwards or backwards and hold each for 30 minutes, total time of 3 hours, and finally perform Sanchin, Sanchin Dai Ni and Tensho.

Principles
November 2014

This week my good friend Mike Clarke Sensei decided to leave the Jundokan Dojo in Okinawa. I will not go into detail as to his reasons why, but will say that once again Mike has demonstrated that he is a man of principle, and that when required he has the strength of character to do the right thing. This is something that all karateka should aspire to. If the purpose of Karate-do training is to develop a good and strong human being, then Mike's example is to be admired.

Now I wonder whether any other high graded shibu-cho Jundokan members around the world would do the same as Mike, and stand up for what Eiichi Miyazato Sensei stood for? Or maybe are they only interested in using the Jundokan brand?

A person is judged by their actions and not by their words.

Fight

Most people start or train in Karate to learn how to defend themselves in a fight, and we also learn through Karate-do's philosophy to avoid trouble, so although we learn how to defend ourselves we hopefully never have to face physical violence.

At the end of this year the Shinsokai students will face a challenge of holding shiko-dachi for one hour and we would like to invite any and all readers to take up this challenge which should prove to be a real fight.

We do it every year and raise monies for a charity. You can as well if you wish donate any amount to your local charity because as you know a good karateka gives more than they take.

We would like to hear from you, via our e-mail, all those who take up the challenge.

Good luck. Have a good fight.
